The Chosen Season 6 Trailer Recap & Analysis
We all know how this story ends. That's exactly what makes the new trailer for The Chosen Season 6, which dropped this morning, so hard to watch. For five seasons we've walked with Jesus and his followers through Galilee, Samaria, and finally into Jerusalem. Now the show turns to the day the whole series has been building toward: Good Friday.
Season 6 covers Jesus' final 24 hours, from His arrest and trials to the walk to Calvary and the cross. The first three episodes hit Prime Video on November 15, and the season finale, The Chosen: Crucifixion, comes to theaters on March 12, 2027. Let's break down what this new trailer shows us, and what it might mean for how the show handles the most important day in history.
The Chosen Season 6 Trailer Breakdown
Judas and Mary

The trailer opens with a haunting encounter between Judas and Mary out in the open. In voice over, Judas insists that he has considered all the possibilities and this was how it had to happen.

Jesus Before the Priests

We transition to the private questioning of Jesus by Ananus and other members of the High Priestly household. They ask Jesus if he intends to ruin their people by leading an armed revolt against Rome.

Jesus and the Rulers

We then get Jesus being questioned, first by Herod Antipas and then by Pilate. Herod asks Jesus if he wants to take his throne, while Pilate practically pleads with Jesus not to challenge him and enrage the people.

Jesus Before the Crowds

We see the crowds turning on Jesus. The disciples are present, some concealing themselves with hoods. They look on with a mixture of confusion and horror.

Atticus is present to oversee the scourging on Jesus. Crowds are also present, including Mary and John.

Jesus is brought before the crowds in a purple robe, mocking his claim to kingship. He makes eye contact with the Marys and John who are in the crowd.

As the crowd gets rowdy calling for Jesus to be crucified and Barrabas to be freed, Pilate gets angry, sensing that he is losing control.

Peter and Judas

We take a quick detour and see Peter and Judas encountering each other after Peter's betrayals. Peter throws a box at Judas and Judas fends him off with a knife, pointing out the hypocrisy of Peter getting mad at him when he denied Jesus too.

The Scourging

We see a soldier grab a scourge. There's an abacus to keep track of how many lashes are given. Jesus is tied to a column, while his mother, John, and Mary Magdalene look on in horror.

The Sun Darkens

As the disciples hide out in the Upper Room, they see the sun darkening outside, during the crucifixion. We get a shot of crowds in the Temple experiencing the same event.

Witnesses to Jesus

Lazarus comforts Mary and Martha near the cross.

We get an exchange between Jesus and Atticus in which he questions whether Jesus' miracles are real. We then see Jesus looking on as the Sun Darkens - perhaps just before he confesses Jesus is the Son of God.

Veronica, the woman with the blood, is present in the Temple when an earthquake strikes and the curtain is torn. Everyone is worried but she seems to understand the implications.

Malchus reflects on what happened to him during the arrest and we see Jesus healing his ear (which Peter cuts off).
Jesus' Suffering and Kingship

We get various shots of Jesus carrying the cross. Mary, John, and Mary Magdalene are present.

Roman soldiers mockingly do a Jewish circle dance around Jesus, arrayed in a purple robe and crown of thorns.

On the night of the arrest, we see soldiers involuntarily bow down before Jesus when he says, "I am" - a sign of his divinity. Judas is taken aback.

As I suspected, Kafni is the one leading the crowds in calling for Jesus to be crucified, insisting they only want Caesar as king.

Simon Z apparently has to get one of the women to safety.
Nicodemus vs. The Priests

We see Caiaphas strut through the city with Shmuel and then see Nicodemus, during the trial, accuse him of acting nefariously. Caiaphas pushes back that he is not the one on trial.

Intense Happenings
In the final moments of the trailer, we get a flurry of emotionally intense moments;

Some soldiers arrive at a home, looking for someone. Likely a flashback. Maybe to Herod's soldiers in Bethelehem (more evidence of that below).

Claudia has another foreboding dream about Jesus.

Frustrated, Pilate washes his hands, denying responsibility.

Judas tosses the 30 pieces of silver at Shmuel, accusing the Jewish leaders of being serpents, killing an innocent man.

Big James and Simon Z appear to get into a fight.

The potential flashback scene. The man inside the house fends the soldiers off with a sword. It's not clear if he's protecting the woman or taking her. My guess: this is the Slaughter of the Innocents.

Judas has the noose and prepares to kill himself.

A soldier thrusts the crown of thorns on Jesus' head.

Martha displays one last act of service, washing Jesus' face. I love how this connects to her character.

Another shot of the soldiers mockingly venerating Jesus.

A young woman and man flee with a baby at night - perhaps Mary and Joseph during the slaughter of innocents.

Jesus is struck while he is questioned.

The women at the cross weep. Most notable is the presence of Claudia among them!

Caiaphas, arrayed in his High Priestly robe, faces off against Jesus.

Jesus looks up in horror at...

The cross on Golgotha.
Analysis and Key Observations
A lot of this is stuff we knew was coming, based on Scripture and what we've seen in clips and drops from The Chosen Season 6 so far. A few key insights and other things I want to highlight:
The tone set for this season is appropriately intense and dark.
Biggest surprise: Claudia joins the women at the cross
I've been resisting predictions that Atticus is the centurion who confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, because he isn't actually a centurion. But the trailer certainly seems to be setting this up.
No signs of Quintus so far. They could be keeping that as a reveal, like Nicodemus in Season 5. But also possible they couldn't get the actor to come back or they have other plans.
The show is really leaning into the reactions of various people to emphasize the emotional weight of the cross. This is in keeping with the initial premise of The Chosen and draws on what makes The Chosen distinct from any past Jesus film: we've had enough time to get to know and care about all the people surrounding Jesus. We get a variety of emotional reactions - not just sorrow (the Marys and John) but also frustration (Pilate), wonder/curiosity (Atticus), and angry fighting (Judas and Peter, James and Simon Z).
The show is going big with the blocking out of the sun. I really like that and am eager to see more of what they're doing.
Dallas mentioned how The Chosen: The Three Kings ties into Season 6. I think we see signs of this in what appear to be flashbacks to the Slaughter of Innocents and Mary and Joseph fleeing.
Season 6 release schedule

*Release dates on The Chosen app haven't been announced yet.
This is the season The Chosen has been pointing toward since the first episode. Every healing, every calling, every quiet conversation by a campfire was leading here. A trailer can only give us glimpses, but it's already clear this won't be easy to watch, and it isn't meant to be.
