Meet Joseph of Egypt + Jesus is Struck in The Chosen Season 6

In a recent livestream, Dallas Jenkins unveiled another scene from The Chosen Season 6 and also introduced cast members from the first The Chosen Universe live-action spin-off, Joseph of Egypt. Below I'll share a few observations from the new scene and the interviews with the cast of Joseph of Egypt, as well as some Black Friday season deals on gifts for fans of The Chosen and other Bible movies/shows.

The Chosen Season 6: Jesus is Interrogated

As Dallas notes in his introduction, the new scene from The Chosen Season 6 is based on John 18:19-24, the initial questioning of Jesus by Annas. Following the biblical account, we see:

  • v. 19a: Jesus questioned about his disciples (e.g. if one is a zealot, if one is an African woman, if he eats with impure women and tax collectors)

  • v. 19b: Jesus questioned about his teaching (e.g. if he is calling for violence, if he would be willing to stop if ordered)

  • v. 20-21: Jesus repeatedly answers by deferring to his past record of open teaching and conduct and by insisting he has not acted in secret

  • v. 22-23: An attending officer strikes Jesus and accuses him of impudence and Jesus responds by insisting that he has done nothing wrong and questioning why he is being punished.

The Chosen does fill this outline out a bit. We see Caiaphas watching the interrogation from the background and a lot of non-verbal interplay between him and Annas and the officer. After the interrogation, Annas questions whether they really need to kill him and the two are clearly uncomfortable doing so, but conclude that it may be necessary to get Rome to do it. Nothing too surprising or controversial - just a good portrayal of a classic scene. Also, if this scene is a good point of comparison, the violence looks like it will be real but not nearly as brutal or bloody as The Passion.

Joseph of Egypt

During the Joseph of Egypt portion of the livestream, we get several short interviews with actors who offer interesting nuggets describing their respective characters. A few points I found interesting:

Reuben (Daniel Peera) in Joseph of Egypt
Reuben (Daniel Peera) in Joseph of Egypt
  • The actor playing Reuben (Daniel Peera) confirms that Reuben will sleep with Jacob's concubine and lose his inheritance as firstborn (Genesis 49:4). The actors see a tragic element of the story, connected to how he's been overlooked and rejected by his father in favor of Joseph.

Simeon (Babak Tafti) in Joseph of Egypt
Simeon (Babak Tafti) in Joseph of Egypt

  • The actor playing Simeon (Babak Tafti) describes himself as the most respected of the brothers, the fiercest, and the one who hates Joseph the most. That does make sense given his role in the slaughter of Shechem (Genesis 34) and Jacob's final description of him (Genesis 49:5-7).

Joseph (Adam Hashmi) in Joseph of Egypt
Joseph (Adam Hashmi) in Joseph of Egypt
  • The actor playing Joseph (Adam Hashmi) describes playing Joseph at many different stages of his life and at a variety of societal roles, including being the vizier (Genesis 41:40-44). He mentions how Jacob's preference for Joseph has given him a kind of unshakeable confidence in himself.

Jacob (Alexander Siddig) in Joseph of Egypt
Jacob (Alexander Siddig) in Joseph of Egypt
  • The actor playing Jacob (Alexander Siddig) expresses sympathy for Jacob's other sons who were overlooked in favor of Joseph.

  • The creator of the show highlights how Joseph never attempted to write home or alert the family to his safety after he rose to power but before they arrived. This seems to be a point of interest to him.

Black Friday Shopping for The Chosen & Bible Show Fans

As usual, Dallas also spends part of the livestream talking up gifts.TheChosen.tv and the upcoming Teal Tuesday livestream and deals. Since I know many fans (like me) are looking for gifts for family this time of year, you should definitely check it out!

Amazon doesn't carry some of the really unique stuff that's in the official gift store. Still, if you're in a rush or just prefer ordering through Amazon, they do have a few items worth grabbing (FYI: As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases. Click here for my affiliation policy.)

The Chosen Adventures Season 1

I'm hoping to post my review of The Chosen Adventures later this week, but here's a preview: it's good. Really good. The Chosen meets Bluey - what more could you ask for? If there are kids in your family and they aren't able to watch The Chosen Adventures on Prime Video, the DVD is a great gift. You can also get the Fan Box with some cool family friendly activities.

The Chosen Season 5 Wall Calendar

Getting a new wall calendar was always a Christmas tradition in my family. Especially given how epic the cinematography was in The Chosen Season 5, this is a good but cheap present option, especially since it's on sale during Black Friday week.

The Chosen: Not My Will

Dallas' father, Jerry B. Jenkins (author of Left Behind), has been producing novelizations of each season of The Chosen so far. If you're like my Mom, who always like to get everyone in our family at least one book, The Chosen: Not My Will might be a good gift. You can also get it in audio on Audible, which would probably be my personal preference in this chaotic season of life.

The Wonder Project Subscription

Does your family already have enough stuff from The Chosen? You might also want to consider getting yourself a subscription to the Wonder Project channel on Prime Video so that you can watch Season 2 of House of David, as well as a variety of family-friendly films or family-friendly edits of films. As much as I liked The Chosen Season 5, House of David Season 2 was my favorite season-length Bible adaptation in 2025, with amazing performances and some really interesting engagement with Scripture.
