Christmas with The Chosen: The Three Kings to Air on Fox
Dallas Jenkins dropped a big announcement on tonight's livestream: The Chosen is getting a brand-new bonus episode this December, and it's airing on Fox.
The episode is titled The Chosen: The Three Kings, and as the name suggests, it's finally giving the Magi their due. It will tell the story of the wise men from the East and their journey to worship the infant Jesus, which is one of the most iconic images in the entire Nativity story, and a piece of the narrative The Chosen hasn't tackled yet.
Here's the interesting part: this wasn't originally supposed to be its own episode. Jenkins shared that the Three Kings story was initially planned as a series of flashbacks woven into Season 6. But as Season 6 came together, the season was already too packed to do the wise men justice as a subplot. So instead of trimming the story down or losing it in the shuffle, the team spun it off into its own standalone bonus episode.
Jenkins indicated that The Three Kings will pay off elements of Season 6, which begins airing in November. Like The Messengers, this Christmas episode isn't just a side story disconnected from the main narrative. It's a companion piece, and likely one worth watching close to Season 6 itself.
And the connections don't stop there. According to Jenkins, this episode also sets up The Chosen's Crucifixion movie, which hits theaters next Easter. It will be interesting to see how a Christmas episode about the Magi's journey to the manger lays groundwork for the story of the cross. It's the kind of full-circle story-telling that Dallas and the team have been doing throughout the series.
