Episode 7 of House of David Season 2 delivers two long-awaited moments: the marriage between David and Mychal (1 Samuel 18:27) and Saul’s attempt to kill David (1 Samuel 19:9-10). Along the way, we also get a lot of palace intrigue, including the death of a named character.

After having been insulted by David’s rejection of Mirab in Episode 5, in Episode 6 of House of David Season 2 Saul sets out to eliminate David by sending him off on an impossible mission in exchange for the hand of Mychal, only for his trap to backfire (1 Samuel 18:20-29). Meanwhile, Queen Ahinoam and her former servant, Kazia, vie for power, while Sara and Jonathan finally tie the knot.

Episode 5 of House of David Season 2 depicts David’s growing success and fame as a military leader (1 Samuel 18:14-16) and the final stages of his doomed relationship with Mirab (1 Samuel 18:18), while also continuing to develop the mythos surrounding the Sword of Goliath and the impact of the dawn of the Iron Age.

The Day of Atonement is one of the most important rituals described in the Law of Moses (Leviticus 23:26-32). Episode 4 of House of David Season 2 ("Road to Atonement") gives us a concrete picture of what it was like for ancient Israelites to participate in this important ritual and the deep emotional and social significance it would have had, even among less devoted Israelites.

David once lamented how, “Everyone utters lies to his neighbor; with flattering lips and a double heart they speak.” (Psalm 12:2, ESV). In Episode 3 of House of David Season 2, we start to see where his bleak view of humanity comes from. While David and Mychal deal with the aftermath of the unexpected offer of Saul’s other daughter, Mirab, to David in marriage (1 Samuel 18:17-18), Eshbaal tries to regain Saul’s favor by offering to marry Dinah,

After the action-packed opening to House of David Season 2, Episode 2 slows things down a bit in order to hammer home the cost of Israel’s victory and the ramifications it will have for David, the House of Saul, and other key figures. If you’re following along in Scripture, Season 2 Episode 2 is basically covering the start of David’s ascent through the Israelite military (1 Samuel 18:5) as well as the resulting drama in the House of Saul.

Episode 1 of House of David Season 2 picks up right where Episode 8 of Season 1 left off, with David’s triumph over Goliath and the ensuing battle between the Israelites and Philistines, followed by David's reunion with King Saul and Jonathan after the battle (1 Samuel 17:51-18:4). I’ll offer my initial review of Episode 1 below, but check back on October 5 for a detailed summary and an analysis of Episode 1’s key themes and ideas.

A new trailer just dropped for House of David Season 2, which premieres on October 5 on the Wonder Project subscription service on Amazon Prime. Season 2 will pick up with the aftermath of David's defeat of Goliath and follow David's ascent to commander of the Israelite army, his friendship with Jonathan, and his doomed romance with Mychal, all of which fuel Saul's violent envy and paranoia, eventually forcing David to go on the run as an outlaw.

House of David Season 2 is set to be released later this Fall and Wonder Project just released the first images of the new season. Below, I'll consider what we can learn about House of David Season 2 from these initial images (hint: it looks like we will indeed be getting one of the Bible's grossest stories about David).
